CHALLENGE TO THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION:
"Release the medical billing code copyright monopoly and assign the codes to the 'public domain' in an Internet-based 'freeware' system. This would save American docs 70 to 100 million dollars annually and would go a long way toward the spirit of cost-savings in the healthcare system. Without the unfair coding monopoly, the AMA can then compete fairly, on a level playing field, with other medical groups for the membership it so desperately lacks"

The real question is this: why are we still paying dues to medical societies that remained eerily 'neutral' during the Obamacare debate?

$ 569 billion in higher taxes;

$ 529 billion in cuts to Medicare;

Medicaid increases by 16 million;

17 major insurance mandates;

The creation of two new bureaucracies with powers to impose future rationing: the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute and the Independent Payments Advisory Board.

Five Key Talking Points on Obamacare and the AMA

1. Only about 17% of practicing physicians are members (by the beginning of next year, when new numbers are generated, this figure is expected to be closer to 10%) 2. Even amongst the few who are AMA members and delegates, many were outraged at the AMA's endorsement of the Obamacare plan, but the select 'elite' from many AMA-feeder medical societies and the top tier of the national AMA chose self-serving politics over true representation. 3. Most AMA revenue comes from its business interests, including sales of things like copyrighted billing codes (the monopoly of these codes nets the AMA anywhere from 70 to 100 million dollars annually). Like the AARP, the AMA also reaps large profits from the sales of its disability and life insurance policies. 4. The AMA is a partner of big government, not an advocate for physicians. It wants to be an intermediary in the government's control over the practice of medicine. 5. All studies, from the IBD/TIPP poll of 9/09 to dozens of polls taken from March '10 to the present, show that doctors and Americans in general do not support Obamacare. They may support limited segments of the legislation, like the elimination of pre-existing clauses, but would like to see tort reform (defensive medicine costs an estimated 4 billion dollars per year), competition of insurance companies across state lines, support for physicians instead of plans to elevate non-physician providers to practice medicine through legislative fiat, and a decrease rather that an increase in the role of 'big government' (Obamacare involves the creation of 159 new federal agencies/departments).

According to Rep. Kevin Brady of Texas, the chart below displays only one-third of the complexity that the new Obamacare law will create:
